About Chelsea Woodruff
Chelsea Woodruff grew up in a family where at least one adult in every family was multilingual. With grandparents, aunts, and uncles who spoke Dutch, a father who spoke Tagalog, an uncle and cousins who spoke Armenian, another uncle and cousins who spoke Spanish, Italian, Indonesian, Arabic, and Mandarin, it was perfectly easy to encounter adults who would change languages on the drop of a hat.
After High School, Chelsea got a job with Continental Airlines. Over the 14 years she worked with Continental, she got over 41 countried stamped in her passports. She received a scholarship to help fund a Bachelor's Degree. While she was still deciding what to study, she spent time in Brazil and began learning Portuguese by immersion. She decided to major in Spanish, thinking it would be easier to find work. The scholarship from Continental funded 2 semesters abroad in Cuernavaca, México at the Universidad Internacional de Lingüística, a university that specializes in the teaching and learning of languages. She graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Spanish Language and Literature and a minor in Anthropology. In 2013, she graduated with a Master of Education degree in Linguistics from Grand Canyon University.
Chelsea was immediately hired as a full time teacher at a school in Arizona where her GCU professor of Curriculum Design was an administrator. She taught for the next 5 years in public high schools teaching Spanish 1 - AP Spanish. In 2019, her house burned down, which led to many life changes including moving back to Utah, and homeschooling her two children, and transferring her teaching license.
Chelsea has continued to teach Spanish part time at St Vincent de Paul Parish School and Our Journey Montessori School. Having the rest of her lessons be available online through Google Meet and/or in person at her school in Murray has allowed her the flexibility to support her family with the time commitments they need.
